Willow Creek plans to grow up
Christianity Today is reporting on a shift taking place at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois.
After more than 30 years of being “seeker sensitive”, Willow is turning the attention of it services back to the mature believer.
I’ve never been a fan of the “seeker sensitive” movements in churches, believing that they were more about getting butts in the seats (and money in the collection plates) than about creating an environment that led to a serious and well-developed relationship with Christ.
And, with the “seeker sensitive” services, there seemed to be something lacking as the “seeker” was ready to move on from “milk” to “solid food”. Yes, there may have been churches that had small teaching groups or “Sunday school”, but that begs the question “is Sunday service only for the ’seekers’ then?”
That never made much sense to me.
Wow, thanks for this post. It is a huge shift for them. I can’t wait to read the article you linked to. Thanks! Amie
